Los presidentes señalaron que el bloque regional será fundamental para garantizar la seguridad alimentaria en el mundo.
Los presidentes de Brasil y Paraguay, Jair Bolsonaro y Mario Abdo Benítez, respectivamente, visitaron este miércoles las obras en el Puente de la Integración, que une ambos países y que se encuentra en su etapa final de construcción.
En el encuentro, los mandatarios destacaron el potencial del Mercado Común del Sur (Mercosur) para abastecer de alimentos a la región y al mundo, en el marco de la crisis internacional.
Abdo Benítez y Bolsonaro recorrieron el puente desde la cabecera de sus respectivos países y caminaron en el tramo central hasta una línea que establece los límites de Brasil y Paraguay. Allí, se abrazaron, informó el diario paraguayo Última Hora.
“El Mercosur tiene 250 millones de habitantes y produce alimentos para 1.500 millones. Tiene un mayor potencial para seguir produciendo alimentos respetando el medio ambiente, entonces creemos nosotros que el Mercosur va a ser fundamental para garantizar la seguridad alimentaria en el mundo y en el mercado del Pacífico”, afirmó el jefe de Estado paraguayo.
“Después de 57 años, otro puente, otra unión, en un lugar estratégico que va a fortalecer todo el proceso de integración entre Paraguay y Brasil“, aseguró el mandatario paraguayo, quien añadió que la obra culminará el 22 de noviembre.
Por su parte, Bolsonaro, en plena campaña electoral de cara a las presidenciales de octubre próximo, también se refirió a la importancia del puente en el fortalecimiento del Mercosur.
“Todo esto va a potenciar nuestro comercio” en un momento en el que el mundo está “inestable” debido a la guerra en Europa y la crisis alimentaria y de energía desatada por el conflicto, señaló.
“El mundo vive sin muchas cosas, pero no vive sin alimentos”, dijo Bolsonaro, quien recalcó que Paraguay es un país que le interesa a Brasil y con el que tienen mucho en común.
La obra del Puente de la Integración, sobre el río Paraná, une a las ciudades de Presidente Franco y la brasileña Foz do Iguazú. Está siendo financiada por el ente binacional de la represa Itaipú, que también patrocina el puente Carmelo Peralta – Puerto Murtinho.
Según indicó el gobierno paraguayo en un comunicado, esta obra, que forma parte de la Ruta Bioceánica, va fortalecer el proceso y la competitividad de la región para la apertura de los mercados del Pacífico.
