Azua, RD.- “Santo Patio”, así le llaman a Laureano Peña, de 47 años, a quien a la edad 6 años le diagnosticaron problemas en la vista, cuya enfermedad no ha podido controlar por falta de recursos y al paso del tiempo ha ido empeorando de tal manera que ha tenido que valerse de un bastón para poder dirigir sus pasos.
“Esta limitación no ha sido obstáculo para yo dirigirme cada mañana desde el sector de Villa Progreso, Pueblo Viejo, hasta Las Barías-La Estancia, a unos 5 kilómetros a pie, con mi “mocha” en mano, y encontrar dónde pasar un día de jornada, aunque sea por $50 pesos, para poder comer”, expresó Laureano.
Durante su largo recorrido en busca de trabajo desde una comunidad a otra, dice que mientras camina por las calles de Las Barías va entonando una canción, de su propia autoría, que dice, “si tu patio está sucio/ será guarida de ratón/ aquí está “Santo Patio”/ con su mocha para la solución; corto las yerbas de un instante/ aunque tenga problema de visión”.
Para colmo de males, Laureano lleva unos 20 días “que no da un golpe”, que no está siendo solicitado por nadie, debido a que por las escasas lluvias en Azua, las yerbas se mantienen sin crecer y por ende disminuye para él la demanda de trabajo.
Confiesa que lleva 21 años realizando esta labor, la que considera como su única profesión, ya que de lo único que está “agarrado” es de Dios, porque no tiene hijos, ni hermanos, ni padres, sólo cuenta con su pareja, la cual adora, pero que, al igual que él, es también una persona especial.
Confiesa Laureano que su único sueño y deseo es que se le otorgue, por la vía que fuere, una pensión que le permita vivir el resto de su vida tranquilo y sin la preocupación de tener que “echar días” limpiando patios por míseros “pesitos”.
